Traveling? 4 Destination Fashion Trends

By Amanda Cohen on April 30, 2017

Fashion is a concept highly influenced by time, place, culture, society, religion, etc. Because of this, fashion around the world is extremely versatile and unique.

When visiting these fun and exciting places, it is important to understand each country’s individual fashion sense so that you can (1) dress appropriately, and (2) know what to look out for when you are doing some serious damage to your wallet while shopping.

After seeing all of the abroad pictures, I became inspired to learn more about fashion around the world (and I am not just talking about fashion in the fashion capitals like Paris, France, and Milan, Italy. Rather, I am talking about fashion trends in destinations that you would not even expect to hear about! Read on if you want to learn about how fashion, culture, and geographical locations collide!

Loafers: Italia

Ah yes, Italy … home of pasta, pizza, and gelato (aka the reason I gained five pounds in eight days while visiting my best friend abroad). Well, Italy is not just known for its amazing food, it is also known for its amazing shoes (in particular, loafers).

Loafers are comfortable, stylish, and if you are tall like I am, don’t make you tower over every person you come across! Loafers are fun and literally come in every color, pattern, material, and style known to man!

Many people go for the classic black leather or suede loafers with a small silver chain on the edge of the tongue of the shoe, but others go for more fun and flirty options like cheetah print, red leather, green suede, and more! Throw on a pair of black pants or ripped jeans and a cute flowy blouse and you’ve got yourself an awesome outfit that can be worn during the day and at night!

Elephant Pants: Australia, Southeast Asia, and South Africa

Places like Australia, Southeast Asia, and South Africa are known for their breezy weather and their adventurous and active lifestyles. Elephant pants are baggy and comfortable and can be worn for many activities. Whether it is walking around, doing yoga, going on a hike, sitting on the beach, or going to dinner you truly cannot go wrong with this comfortable pair of trousers.

Elephant pants come in all different colors and the best part is that they are one size fits all, so you do not have to worry about returning them or making sure the size works for you! The band that holds the pants up is stretchy and comfortable so these pants are perfect for when you are about to devour some of the yummy foods that hail from these gorgeous places. When I wear elephant pants I often wear them with flowy white tops. In South Africa, I would always wear long sleeve, loose tops because the nights would get chilly.

Leather Jackets: Spain

Spain is a perfect place to sport your favorite leather jacket. The weather goes through its own roller coasters, so it is of utmost importance to layer up while you are visiting the beautiful and diverse places in Spain.

Even though most people don’t realize it, leather jackets can be more than just black, long-sleeve cut. Recently, red and green leather jackets have been taking over the world and, honestly, I am all about this new trend. Leather jackets are also perfect because they are acceptable for both day and night attire.

However, I do recommend wearing the lighter-wash leather jackets during the day and the black and gray leather jackets at night. Pair the leather jacket with jeans, a loose or tight top, and a fun pair of booties and you got yourself a fantastic outfit!

Bathing Suits: Mexico

Mexico and bathing suits go together like peanut butter and jelly. If you have ever vacationed in Mexico, you know that bathing suits are appropriate to wear in just about any location (except for dinner). While in Mexico you will be spending most of your time on the beach basking in the warm sun with a margarita or mojito in your hand, so bathing suits are the go-to outfit because you will get a killer tan!

These days one-pieces are all the rage, so I highly recommend packing one or two of these fun things in your bag, especially because they come in all different styles. To accompany your bathing suit, wear a flowy pair of pants, shorts, a dress cover-up, a pair of sandals, a floppy hat, and a cool pair of sunglasses! Don’t forget to pack some sunscreen in your bag because nothing ruins an outfit like bright red lobster-like skin!
